Open Health Institute

Open Health Institute (OHI) — a Russian non-governmental organization, is one of the largest NGOs in Russia in the sphere of public health founded in 2003.

From the early days, one of the main components of the OHI program activities has been dissemination of modern public health knowledge in Russia as well as implementation of evidence-based technologies in the field of prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases. OHI strongly focuses on health of vulnerable population groups lacking fair access to the existing health care services. Presently, the projects implemented by OHI foster development of effectively functioning healthcare system in Russia that allows every individual to exercise fully the right to proper healthcare.

OHI's activities include:

1. Infectious Disease Control:

OHI supports multiple projects aimed at HIV prevention, fighting dual HIV/AIDS and TB epidemics.

2. Non-Infectious Disease Control:

These OHI's programs are aimed at improvement of tobacco and alcohol control policy, palliative care development, cervical and breast cancer prevention, the quality of medical services and professional development of public health and medical personnel according to the principles of evidence-based medicine..

3. Advocacy:

OHI conducts annual summer schools for public health specialists, as well as trainings and seminars on public health issues for journalists (federal and regional mass media), regular meetings with executive and legislative government as well as other activities aimed at dissemination of new evidence in various target audiences.

4. Research Projects in the Sphere of Public Health.

OHI implements several research projects annually in various fields of public health.

5. Consulting Services on Developing and Implementing Initiatives and Programs in the Field of Public Health.
